Art and About is City of Sydney's celebration for temporary art and public exhibitions. The objective of the project was to evolve the brand and increase awareness for the hero events through the year.
The soft re-brand leverages the equity of the existing identity mark. Design is driven by defining clear hierarchies, creating dynamic and functional assets for different imagery and content, and assuring adaptability from event to event and year to year.
Two main devices are the language system and the circles patterns. The language system has multiple roles; reflect the tone of the hero events, integrated as definer, call to action, question, evoke and tease. The circles act as building blocks for different graphic assets; serving as a grid, accommodating diverse photographic material as image masks, creating patterns, icons etc. Combining the two establishes a dynamic and extensive identity system, supporting a broad base of usage while keeping a contemporary nature relevant to the arts sector.
